Vectorize a Drawing: Pencil, Ink & Marker Art Made Digital
To vectorize a drawing, an artist traces your pencil, ink or marker original as vector shapes, deciding how much paper texture and line wobble to keep. Parents, teachers, tattoo artists and small brands send a scan or phone photo, and we return a scalable file for printing, cutting or framing, from $7 per image.
- Pencil, ink and marker each handled their own way
- Paper texture and smudges removed
- Line weight kept close to the original
- Delivered in 24 hours; rush in 6
What Happens When You Vectorize a Drawing?
Each medium leaves its own marks. Ink gives crisp lines that convert almost one to one. Pencil adds gray shading that has to become shapes or hatching. Marker and crayon leave streaks and uneven fills that we smooth into solid color. We remove the paper, the scanner shadow and stray marks, and keep the parts that make the work feel like yours.
- Ink lines traced at true thickness
- Pencil shading turned into clean tones
- Crayon and marker fills made solid

Vectorize a Drawing: FAQ
What does it mean to vectorize a drawing?
It means converting a drawing on paper, scanned or photographed, into a vector file made of shapes and lines. The drawing can then be resized without blurring, recolored and printed on products. We do it by hand, so the lines keep the feel of the original medium.
How much does it cost to vectorize a drawing?
Plain line drawings start at $7 per image. Work with dense shading, many colors or intricate detail costs more because it takes longer to rebuild. Upload a scan or photo and we email an exact quote; the conversion begins as soon as payment is made.
Should I scan or photograph my drawing?
A flatbed scan at 300 dpi or more is ideal. A phone photo works too if you shoot straight on, in daylight, without shadows or flash. Fill the frame with the drawing and add a close-up of any small details you care about.
Can you keep the pencil shading?
Yes. Shading can become smooth tone shapes, fine hatching lines or a simplified two-tone effect. Some uses, like vinyl cutting or engraving, need simpler shading, so tell us where the drawing is going and we suggest an approach that will reproduce well.
Will you change a child’s drawing?
Not unless you ask. We clean the paper and steady the colors, but wobbly lines and imperfect shapes stay as they are, because that is the charm. If you would like things tidied, for example a gap closed or a line straightened, just add a note.
Who owns the converted drawing?
The drawing remains yours, and so does the vector version. Once payment is complete, the finished files are formally transferred to you on request. You receive AI, EPS, SVG, PDF and PNG, two free revisions and our 100% money-back guarantee.
